Vocational volume Β· English explanations

Dutch for psychologists β€”
the language that is
also the licence.

For a foreign-trained psychologist the Dutch language is not a soft skill: it sits inside the AKV-toets, inside every dossier that can be read back to you, and inside the trust of a client saying something out loud for the first time. Forty-two days on the sentences the work actually consists of β€” intake, risk, formulation, records, MDO, supervision, and a Dutch vakgroep. Nothing here is legal advice: verify every registration step with BIG-register/CIBG, Nuffic, DUO and the NIP.

Say the Dutch out loud from the English before you flip β€” recognition is not recall. Mark anything you produced correctly but slowly as hard: at a counter, slow is wrong.

Each scene has an outcome: a job, a prescription, a repair, a place in a school. Read your side out loud, then cover the Dutch and rebuild it from the English.

Dagen 40–42 Β· toetsing

AKV-toets, vakinhoudelijke toets, BIG β€” and what each one is for

The clinical route runs diploma assessment β†’ AKV-toets (Dutch language and professional communication) β†’ vakinhoudelijke toets β†’ any required aanvullende opleiding β†’ inscription in the BIG-register, with the scope decided case by case. The academic route needs none of it β€” but a Dutch vakgroep runs on Dutch socially and administratively, which is why both tracks live in this volume. Rules and formats change; confirm everything with BIG-register/CIBG, the credential evaluation body, DUO and your beroepsvereniging before you book or pay for anything. Sixteen mock items below. 🎯

After this volume

The level that matters here is not a certificate. It is whether a Dutch client keeps talking.

Work this volume alongside B2 and C1: B2 gives you the register of a dossier and a casusbespreking, C1 gives you supervision, teaching and the promotieverdediging. Then keep going in the work itself β€” files in Dutch from day one, case discussions in Dutch even when they are slower.

Write the record in Dutch first
One dossier entry a day, written as if a colleague and a reviewer will both read it. Observation, dated, no inference.
Say the honest sentence
β€œDat weet ik niet. Ik zoek het op en kom er vandaag op terug.” In Dutch practice this costs nothing and buys everything.
Drill, don't reread
Fifteen minutes in het Taallab beats an hour of rereading β€” see the psychology module for why.
