๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ De Nederlandse bibliotheek ยท English explanations

Dutch, from goedemorgen to a dossier that holds up in five years.

Eight volumes: six CEFR levels, one vocational volume for psychologists on the BIG/AKV route, and one on the psychology of learning a language as an adult. Built for a working professional in the Netherlands โ€” a clinician, a PhD scholar, someone whose Dutch has to survive a gemeente letter, an intake, a vakgroep meeting and a defence.

Search every volume

Type Dutch or English. Results come from all eight word lists at once, with the level and theme they belong to โ€” and a link into the volume that teaches them.

{{ r.en }} {{ r.meta }} โ†’
Nothing in the word lists matches that. Select any Dutch word anywhere in these volumes for the dictionary panel โ€” it also generates pronunciation for words that are not on a list.

How long will this take?

Honest arithmetic rather than marketing. Pick the days per week you will actually manage โ€” the projection uses the real day counts in these volumes, not an average.

What every button does

All eight volumes share one interface, so this is the only time you have to learn it. Nothing here needs an account or a connection โ€” everything is in this browser.

โ–ธ hear it โ€” and shift-click it
Every Dutch word, phrase and dialogue line speaks in a Dutch voice when you click it. Hold shift while clicking to hear the same line word by word, slowly โ€” the one you want for schr-, ui, eu and any sentence you cannot yet hear the seams in.
โŒ˜K โ€” the dictionary, from anywhere
Press โŒ˜K (Ctrl+K on Windows) in any volume and search in Dutch or English. You can also select any Dutch text on the page and a small pill appears โ€” click it to look the word up without losing your place. The panel gives the article, the plural, a pronunciation respelling, and a save button.
The day plan is a set of tick boxes
Tap a day when it is finished. That fills the progress bar in the left rail, this hub's Taalpad strip and the projection below โ€” so the number you see is always your own, never a target. Tap again to untick.
Hide English, then test yourself
Every vocabulary list has a switch that blanks the English column. Cover it, say the Dutch from memory, then reveal. Colour tells you the article on sight: cornflower = de, sage = het.
Het Taallab does the remembering
The volumes teach; het Taallab keeps it. Fourteen cards a session across five drill types, scheduled by how well you knew each one โ€” grade honestly and the intervals do the work. Filter by level so it only asks what you have met.
Where to start, concretely
A complete beginner: A1 day 1, and read volume zero in the first week โ€” it is the one that stops you quitting in month four. Already speak some Dutch: open the level you think you are, take its self-check, and drop one level if it stings.

How to study, so it sticks

๐Ÿ•’ One volume open, one drill session
Read the module for the day in the volume, then do fourteen cards in het Taallab. Thirty to fifty minutes, six days a week, beats three hours on Sunday by a wide margin.
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Produce before you recognise
Every list has a Hide English switch and every line speaks. Say the Dutch out loud from the English first; only then look. Recognition feels like learning and is not.
๐Ÿท๏ธ Learn de/het with the noun
The article decides the relative pronoun (die/dat) and the adjective ending. Adding it later costs three times as much as learning it attached.
๐Ÿšซ Refuse the English
Dutch people switch to English to be kind. โ€œMag ik het in het Nederlands proberen?โ€ is the single highest-return sentence in this library.
๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ Exams are modular โ€” use that
Staatsexamen NT2 is booked and passed part by part. Clear reading and listening first; they improve fastest and a pass stands on its own.
โš–๏ธ Verify every official rule
Inburgering, NT2, AKV and BIG requirements change. Use these volumes for the language and confirm the route with DUO, CNaVT and BIG-register/CIBG.
Progress for every volume is stored in this browser only (keys nl-a1-book โ€ฆ nl-c2-book, nl-psych, nl-lab). Speech uses the Dutch voices installed on your device; if none is present the written pronunciation in the dictionary panel is the reference. Nothing in this library is legal or medical advice.
