Nederlands B2 — the level
your profession
starts asking for.

B2 is where Dutch stops being spoken language plus grammar. Nominalisations to decode, claim strength to calibrate, beknopte bijzinnen to write — and the working registers of a casusbespreking, a dossier, a risicotaxatie and an advice letter. Fifty-six days aimed at Staatsexamen NT2 Programma II and at the language demand inside the AKV-toets.

Say the Dutch out loud from the English before you flip — recognition is not recall. Mark anything you produced correctly but slowly as hard: at a counter, slow is wrong.

Each scene has an outcome: a job, a prescription, a repair, a place in a school. Read your side out loud, then cover the Dutch and rebuild it from the English.

NT2 Programma II — and the AKV-toets on the BIG route

Programma II certifies Dutch at B2 for higher education and professional work; each part is booked and passed on its own. For a foreign-trained psychologist it also feeds the AKV-toets — general knowledge, skills and Dutch professional communication — which sits on the route to BIG-registratie alongside the vakinhoudelijke toets. Requirements change: verify the current route with BIG-register/CIBG, DUO and your own diploma assessment before booking anything. Sixteen mock items below. 🎯

After B2

B2 lets you practise. C1 lets you teach, chair, and write the advice.

C1 is where correctness stops being the measure and choice takes over: which of six verbs for “said”, which particle carries your stance, whether a dossier sentence will still hold up in five years. Volume five is built around the Dutch of supervision, teaching, peer review and the promotieverdediging.

Write the dossier sentence
One clinical or research sentence a day, written as if a colleague and a reviewer will both read it. Observation, not inference.
Read one Dutch paper a week
A vakblad article in your own field. You already know the content — so all your attention goes to the register.
Drill, don't reread
Fifteen minutes in het Taallab beats an hour of rereading — see the psychology module for why.
