Is this therapy, or counselling?
They overlap, and a lot of the work looks the same from the inside — but they are not synonyms. Counselling tends to be shorter and focused on what is happening now: a decision, a loss, a conflict at work, a stretch of bad sleep. It works at the level of day-to-day functioning and adjustment. Psychotherapy tends to go deeper and take longer, working on long-standing patterns — how you relate to people, what you believe about yourself, the shape of your personality. Many people begin with the first, and some of that becomes the second. I work counselling-first, and I will say plainly if what you are bringing needs the longer, deeper piece.
Do you diagnose or prescribe medication?
No. As a counselling psychologist I don’t label or medicate. If you’d benefit from psychiatric care, I’ll gladly help you connect with the right professional.
How long and how often?
Sessions are 50 minutes, usually weekly to begin with. There’s no fixed number — we review together, and you’re always free to pause or stop.
Is it confidential?
Yes. What you share stays between us, within the standard limits of safety and the law — which I’ll explain clearly right at the start.
What does it cost?
I keep fees fair and transparent. I’ll share current fees on our intro call and we’ll find something workable for you.
Is online really as good as in person?
For most people, yes. Research consistently finds online counselling as effective as face-to-face — with the bonus of meeting from a place you already feel safe.
Still unsure?
That’s a reasonable place to be. The first conversation is there to work out whether this is right for you — there is no obligation past it.
